Here’s how to access that flower power at the UNESCO Heritage Site – yes, do not get surprised.

Kaas Plateau is Maharashtra’s lesser-known valley of flowers that is best visited during the monsoon, between August and October. It’s not just gorgeous for Instagram—mostly a reserve forest, this land is home to more than 850 flowering species, some rare and endangered and many of which are new to botanical science, making it a crucial site for research.

Let me tell you more about this place first – let’s dive in

It falls under the Sahyadri Sub Cluster of the Western Ghats, and it became a part of a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 2012

It is famously called Maharashtra Valley of Flowers. Situated in Satara is an eco-sensitive place you can see the carpet of flowers after monsoon ends. During monsoon, Kas Pathar flower valley receives hefty rainfall; you can see different flowers throughout the year.

One particular Satara Flower Aponogeton Satarensis or Waytura Flower can only be found on Kaas Plateau now listed in endangered species. Kaas Plateau supports 175 species of wildflowers.

Kas Pathar is home to many birds, butterflies, reptiles, wild animals.

The best time to visit Kaas Plateau season is just after the end of monsoon during September and October.

Once in eight years, Karvi Flowers blooms into mas flowering covering the entire Kaas Plateau in shades of Purple Blue and Pink.

Plateau seems to change the colours after every 15- 20 days as the cycle of flowering plants progresses

Elements of outstanding Universal Value Plateau is rich in its Bio-diversity. Very IMP for botanical studies and research work. Many species which are still new to the Botanical Science are observed on plateau. Many of the endemic, endangered plants are found on Plateau. Plateau will provide a potential site for future research in botanical studies. More than 850 species of flowering plants are reported.

How to reach

It is 25km from Satara, Kaas is about six hours’ driving from Mumbai, and three hours’ by road from Pune. So you can take the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway (NH48) up to Satara and then exit for Kaas Plateau. The parking lot is a bit of a distance away, but there are ST buses that will ferry the distance for a small fee. Be prepared to not have access to food stalls or restrooms on the plateau itself.

A special note from the NGO that is working relentlessly for this plateau

Remember that the plateau has many rare, endangered and threatened, unique plant species, found no where in the world other than this place. It is our responsibility to protect these and avoid extinction.

If we take care of the plateau and enjoy the beauty, without hurting it, it will be there for years to come for our enjoyment as well as for our next generations.

It is prestigious World Heritage site, recognized by world community as unique place. Damage to it will be shameful to us as a country.

kass pathar blog SpiritedBlogger

Let us not only put all responsibility on the shoulders of government, but own some responsibility of conservation.

The danger to this plateau are human beings – the plateau’s blooms are unfortunately threatened by visitors who trample on the plants, pluck flowers, litter and park on the plateau.

Please be a responsible traveller

Spread this message so that our planet earth can remain as beautiful and conserved it is.

Located in Gurgaon, it is a 10 miles’ kingdom like property for everyone who wishes to stay in solace and enjoy the genuine beauty of nature amidst the city’s hustle and bustle.

This beautiful place is just where nature meets luxury. We had a great time staying in the villa and get to explore the resort to the fullest. It is a lavish resort in Gurgaon and a treat to be there. For me, the best part of Karma Lakelands is a huge golf course. They have a 9-hole golf course with 18-hole experience with around over 200, 000 trees. This is spectacular and super soothing.

Their golf course has received an award of Eco-friendly golf course in 2016 for Golf digest. Area of the campus is approximately 300 acres and the one fact which amazed me a lot is that nearly 60% of ingredients are organic and sourced from our organic nursery. Isn’t this just splendid?

Our was a fantastic stay, and here’s what we have experienced at karma Lakelands:

We got villa 49, which is one of the best architecturally designed and built villas at Karma Lakelands. The view of the room is green and full of nature. You can spot a Neelcow and go fishes in the man-made lake near to the villa. If you also looking to unwind and rejuvenate yourself, then there is a mediation centre by Isha Foundation.

Ensuring hospitality and services par excellence, Karma Lakelands takes great pride in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Their environment-friendly farm-to-table model of having & preparing food is in sync with the healthy food revolution around the world. “Real farm-to-table cooking requires us to consider ingredients first, and recipes second,” says our Executive Chef Jayanandan, who along with his team is committed continuously to enhance the overall experience for guests.

So they welcome you to the restaurant where you can expect atmospheric elements that inspire and cultivate a healthy relationship between the dining table and our planet.

  • Welcome drink was awesome–they call is Karma Orange Drink
  • They have five chalets and the price differs as per the time when you are booking like weekends are costly.
  • Enjoyed their gym, spa, tennis and badminton courts.
  • Just read a book sitting on the balcony and witnessing pure nature
  • The food and hospitality is remarkable
  • One can enjoy bird watching and nature walks for a long time.
  • They make their mocktails with Karma Oranges, Karma Honey, Rock Salt & Mint Leaves

Our food was from their restaurant OnKourse. Their best is Veg Thai curry, Mutton soup, Tom yam salad, Prawns dish, Thai curry veg.

Apart from this the setup and interiors is soothing for anyone to enjoy the delicacies to its fullest. Not only Indian, you get Italian, Mexican and other continental dishes. Not to miss is the Klub Karma. An array of dishes can be enjoyed with drinks. The AK’s bar is ravishing and a great place to chill.

Our villa had an indoor pool and Jacuzzi. They have 5 architecturally varied villas with all distinct designs of each. All the villas offer stunning views and rich nature walks. You experience a glimpse of eco-responsible living without compromising on style and comfort. What you get are terrace villa, pavilion villa, courtyard villa, portico villa and atrium villa. All the five villas are decked lavishly with amenities that you would not like to miss.

Adding more charm to the property they have luxury tents. Check the images below and you would understand what I’m trying to say.  These luxury tents have everything you need for your perfect stay. Comfortable beds, air conditioners, suitable and spacious bathrooms and all the view you need.

Pizza bay is one place to relax and munch at the same time. It is open in the evenings for you to enjoy the fresh breeze. For all the pizza lovers, this is the place to hang out.

Last but not the least, the fantastic part of Karma Lakelands is organic farming and sustainable living which they are prompting by their property. In fact, one can learn about organic farming as well. They are using these organic products like vegetables in their cooking too.

Thanks to the entire team of Karma Lakelands for a wonderful staycation. Our gratitude to your staff who has to arrange a cake for our friend’s birthday. The cake made by the chef was scrumptious. Special mention to the butler Amin and Vikas, they were supportive and brilliantly helpful in decorating the room. The whole staff and management was friendly and warm hearted. Do visit it once, you would revisit again.
