World Book Day | Encourage to Share a Story | Bookshelf

This year the theme for World book day is – share a story. It is apt, as all of us have ample stories and experiences to share. This is the 24th year that the event has been held. It comes around on the first Thursday of March every year, in the UK. This day is also acknowledged globally in over 100 countries across the world. Other countries celebrate World Book Day on William Shakespeare‘s birthday – April, 23.

What’s happening this year?

Due to Corona Virus Pandemic things are quite silent this year. Everything is virtual and webinars are held online. There is hardly anything happening offline. Books are offered for just £1 – through book tokens, and they can be used to buy one of the exclusive books on offer through the scheme or used to buy a full-price book or audiobook that costs £2.99 or more. Kids are also being encouraged to share their stories with one another and prizes are on offer for the best. A selection of free audiobooks are also on offer, which launched on February 18. A Book Club is also being launched in March 2021.

On this note a quick tips for kids on how you inculcate them to read more and share more. Let them share their stories and encourage them to become who they want to:

• Create a reading area.
• Read in front of your child
• Make reading a daily habit.
• Create a reading space.
• Take trips to the library.
• Let your child pick what to read.
• Re-read favorite books.
• Find reading moments in everyday life.

Remember: READING SHOULD BE FUN, NOT FRUSTRATING!
