Bad Newz: A Rollercoaster Ride That Never Took Off.

It is sad to write this review, but “Bad Newz,” directed by Anand Tiwari and starring Vicky Kaushal, Ammy Virk, and Triptii Dimri, just feels like a film that was going to be a blockbuster. Yet, it only proves how great talents can fail dramatically with a weak script and mediocre direction.
Plot Synopsis: A Tale of Lost Potential
The story revolves around Akhil Chadha, an attractive young Punjabi lad whose life becomes exciting after he marries Saloni—an up-and-coming chef whose dreams are as big as her cooking talents. But soon, the sweet matrimony goes berserk, and they separate. Enter Gurbir, Saloni’s confidant, into this intricate love triangle. It felt like high drama, but it was all meant to be the subplot of an unexpected pregnancy—a bit contrived, bordering on the absurd, if you will—an Agatha Christie novel being fierce with its end twists.
Performance
The one-man show Vicky Kaushal as Akhil is the only redeeming feature of this movie. His acting is a one-man show where he takes the leadership from the front when the going gets tough—a master chef cooking gourmet out of a leftover hodgepodge. Kaushal’s natural charisma and emotional depth invest the character with just a little bit of worth. On the other hand, Ammy Virk and Triptii Dimri are let down by the undercooked script and dreary dialogues. Their performances stand as actors trapped in never-ending soap operas.
Script and Direction: A Recipe for Disaster
The direction by Anand Tiwari is quite pathetic. The screenplay bursts with clichés and predictability, lacking the originality required to engage an audience. The film’s attempted humour lacks its intended charm, and the jokes sound as if borrowed from some sitcom or another in the early 2000s. What should be a biting satire comes off as dull and toothless. Tiwari’s lack of vision is reflected in each frame.Making the movie look like a hurriedly compiled production instead of a thought-through work.
Music and Visuals: A Visual Feast with Bland Tunes
The music in the film is set by Tanishk Bagchi, which promised to be a highlight, but turned out just as forgettable background noise. The individual songs, catchy in isolation, advance nothing or no one, having very little in them to take the story further or build a more significant emotional connection. Shot by Vishnu Rao, the visuals are bright and colourful, giving us a feast for our eyes even as the narrative starves the mind. These brilliant pictures, though, were no excuse for the absence of substance, much as a good-looking cake could not make up for the lack of flavour.
Final Verdict: All Style, No Substance
“Bad Newz” is a perfect package, but it has an interior of far less value. It promises a lot of excitement, romance, and humour but only serves in a fulfilling manner on some of these platters. For a movie that’s supposed to go deep into the dynamics of modern-day relationships and societal expectations, it finally ends up as a superficial affair that doesn’t evoke resonance.
In conclusion, “Bad Newz” falls short of its promise, demonstrating that even with a talented cast and a seemingly interesting premise, a film can falter with poor execution. The visuals and music may catch the eye and ear, but the lack of substance leaves much to be desired.
