Kumbh is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. Kumbh is held periodically at four different locations in India — Nashik, Haridwar, Prayagraj, and Ujjain. In normal circumstances, Kumbh continues for nearly four months but this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the duration of the congregation has been curtailed to one month.
The first shahi snan was held on March 11 on the occasion of Mahashivratri, while the second was held on April 12. Kumbh Mela Officer Deepak Rawat Tuesday inaugurated the world’s largest Diya on Aastha Path, according to the state government. The diya is also named in the Guinness Book of World records.
Wow, this is incredible – India is incredible but are we meaning with it.
Despite rising COVID cases, Haridwar is jam-packed with pilgrims for Kumbh Mela on April 12. COVID protocols were flouted as devotees performed the rituals.
“Maha Kumbh has been challenging for the country, Uttarakhand Police is comparatively small in strength but Maha Kumbh takes place on that very scale. This event comes in the backdrop of the state recording its highest single-day rise in India of COVID cases.

Thousands Violate COVID Protocols, Police Use AI Cameras To Identify Maskless Devotees, but it seems nothing working and the cases are just rising too high. And guess what Over 1,200 Test COVID Positive In Five Days As 14 Lakh Participate In Third Shahi Snan.
Although the third Shahi Snan showed some footfall and the admin is happy about it, boosting it as a triumph, but does this sorts the issue of the infections?
Not just this physical distancing and COVID norms were unabashedly violated by the seers and the followers. Not just this Haridwar is grappling with COVID cases in the past two days. Still, there is no end to it and now the administration and Hardiwar Civic bodies are gearing up for the remaining two major events – one is on April 21st Ram Navami and Chaitra Purnima on April 27th.
Meanwhile, the big news,
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, spoke to Swami Avdheshanand Giri and said that the ongoing Kumbh Mela should now only be symbolic in view of the surging cases in the country. “I have requested that since two shahi snans (royal baths) have already taken place, Kumbh should now be symbolic in view of the corona pandemic. This will help in the fight against the pandemic,” he said.
The Joona Akhara, one of the largest sects of seers in the country, announced the end of its participation in the Kumbh Mela on Saturday, hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal.
My question is, will this make a difference, I’m not a hater, I’m a non-conformist who prevails on my own wisdom and choice of understanding. However the question remains on what are we seeing as the future of our country. Shall we think to beat the pandemic or live with it. It is our choice of course, but, nevertheless, please do not disobey the protocols, which form the system to the civilians, all are doing.
Leave your comments on what do you feel about it.
