Devkund Diary:Trekking to the Heart of the Waterfall

Overview

Devkund Waterfall Trek also known as “God’s bathing pond” is located in Bhira village in Maharashtra near Kolad at an altitude of around 2700 km. It features a thick valley with a beautiful forest and waterfall. The place was unknown to the trekkers but has recently become a highlight with a 6-8 km duration. The waterfall is sheltered way down the forest which is a picturesque view.

Best Time to Visit

The best and most preferable time to visit the place is during the monsoon season when the weather is pleasant and when the rainfall is highest, which is June to September, and the post-monsoon season from October to December. The temperature during the summer months is 25-35 degrees Celsius and in winter it is 10-20 degrees Celsius. 

How to reach?

From Mumbai

By Road

It is the easiest way to go to the Devkund, you can drive your car, public transport, or by taxi. Start your journey from Mumbai and continue towards the Bhira village. It takes around 3-4 hours to reach.

By Train

Take a train from Mumbai which takes approximately 3 hours to reach the nearest station of Devkund which is Khopoli. From there you can take public transport or hire a taxi to reach the starting point of Devkund.

From Pune

By Road

Take your car or hire a cab to reach Devkund which is approximately 110 kilometers and takes around 3 hours to reach the starting point. Depart from Pune and take a way to Chandni Chowk and follow the state highway 92 until you reach Bhira village.

By Train

Alternatively, you can take a train though there is no direct train from Pune to Bhira village you can take a train from Pune, and reach the nearest station to Devkund which is Khopoli, and reach Bhira village by taking a local bus or a taxi. 

Why Devkund?

The freshness of the environment and its serene beauty influence a person to visit the place at least once. The walk through the lush green thick forest, over the rocky terrains offers a physical and adventurous challenge. The place is beautiful throughout the year but during the monsoon season it is a cherry on the cake as the greenery becomes more green and when the water is at its peak flowing. 

The natural beauty of the Devkund Waterfall is famous for its beauty and its peaceful surroundings. The waterfalls offer crystal-clear water and breathtaking sightseeing. The place is an astounding place for nature admirers and photographers to capture the awful moments and the memories. The unspoiled beauty of the place is unknown by most but is coming to the highlights of the trekkers with the feeling of excitement to explore the place. 

The place itself has a soothing ambiance with the roads covered by a canopy which helps find comfort in the environment and the feeling to explore more of this kind. As it is known as the God’s Bathing place it is much more satisfactory for the people with the mind of cultural exploration.

Places to Visit Near Devkund

Tamhini Ghat

Tamhini Ghat was an anonymous place 30 kilometers from Devkund but is gradually becoming a well-known tourist attraction place known for its picture lakes and green woods that make the place even more beautiful, the perfect visual of the place can be observed in the monsoon season as the rain drops down the greenery woods and the waterfalls look more elevated.

Ghangad Fort

Approximately 70 kilometers from Devkund is the Ghangad Fort which is a moderate trekking trail that charms visitors, especially nature lovers, and offers a panoramic view. The fort is known for its caves and is rich in biodiversity, Flora, and Fauna. At the same end, it is an excellent opportunity for the photographers to capture the beautiful view.

Pawna Lake 

An artificial lake known best for the camping experience is approximately 80 kilometers from Devkund. It is famous for its soothing and relaxing water and scenic surroundings which gives a picturesque sunrise and sunset. The lake is surrounded by the lush green valleys and the beautiful hills and offers a great place to sit and relax.

Kundalika Valley

 Around 40 kilometers from Devkund is the Kundalika Valley which is a picturesque spot. Here the monsoon sings out for a long drive to the city occupant. It is known for its natural beauty and flourishing green valleys where the Kundalika River flows through it. The place offers river rafting, camping, and also trekking. 

Raigad Fort

Approximately 60 kilometers away from the Devkund Waterfalls is the Raigad Fort which offers trekking trails through the rocky terrain and the thick forests. It majorly attracts the tourists with its richness and the impressive architecture. Within the fort, various places can be explored such as the Jagdishwar temple and the royal chambers. The Maha Darwaja and Rajyaabhishek Mandap are the major attractions of the place with perfect sculptures.
